Brett Mackenzie

He has over 30 years of martial arts experience which includes Korean Karate, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, Jui Jutsi and KAPAP

Brett Mackenzie previously served in the British Army as an infantry soldier with the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment (Vikings). During his service he was posted to Gibralter, Colchester and completed several operational tours of Northern Ireland. After leaving the army, he has served in many different security roles from door supervisor (Great Yarmouth) to Norwich City Football Club working as an away fans steward.

After studying many disciplines Brett Mackenzie chose KAPAP because it’™s intelligent, up-to-date with the real world and its threats. It is not bogged down by traditions, allowing him to express his teaching style and beliefs without being restricted by a syllabus.

Brett loves teaching people valuable life skills and has taught martial arts for many years in Norfolk. He spent several years working as a Karate instructor in Great Yarmouth. In 2012 he decided to teach KAPAP and hasn’t looked back since.

Brett Mackenzie likes to travel, and visits Sweden and Serbia regularly

He helps mentor the KAPAP group in Sweden with his friend Julian Jacob. He also travelled all the way to America train with the Avi Nardia. Meeting some great people and after 8 days of intensive training he was awarded a KAPAP level 2 instructor cert.

He is a qualified firearms instructor with GROM Serbia

This is a new qualification under the Avi Nardia Academy. Brett believes that if you teach firearms disarms, you really need to know the subject. Training with rubber training pistols, doesn’t cut it – and you must KNOW YOUR SUBJECT. Nothing worse than teaching students to disarm weapons and have no handling skills. This is ultra dangerous and he regular teaches handling skills to all his students.

‘Sometimes a teacher, always a student’

One of the mottoes favoured by Sensei Avi Nardia, the founder of modern KAPAP. Brett is very open mind when it comes to learning and ensures that he is regularly kept up-to-date. Attending instructor updates and cross training with other top class teachers.

Brett is one of the few authorized instructors to teach KAPAP within the UK. Visit KAPAP UK authorised schools page.

I have been training at your Kapap class under your instruction since November 2012. In this period I feel my physical skills have developed greatly and my mind set towards martial arts has changed as a result of this.

For me, Kapap has not been a repetition of the same routines (like some martial arts). In Kapap, you really do have the opportunity to trial real life pressured situations, with each situation differing in that the repetitions are trialled on one or more of your fellow Kapap classmates.

In the up-coming months, I am looking forward to the potential development of the Great Yarmouth club supported by your teaching methods, and will be training hard in order to enhance my self defence skills.
