Just for fun survival training with Viking KAPAP

Just for fun, survival classes and courses

We make no claim to be experts! Viking KAPAP has a study group

Putting together a mixture of my ex Army experience and lessons learned from other parties who include Alex Mair ex Royal Marine Commando and Fraser Christian – Coastal survival school.

Learn what is the best outdoor kit to buy, how to use it and create your own bug out bag if there is an emergency. We do all sorts from foraging for wild mushrooms, learning about learning to manage your micro environment (clothing), start fires in the wet and make camp to keep out the cold.

We visit Scotland as you can legally wild camp, build shelters and learn basic skills like building fires and understanding the different types of knives and their uses as tools.

There’s no practise like the doing!

We throw ourselves in at the deep end to put our knowledge to the test, whilst ensuring that we have back up should we need it! All aspects of survival are covered but it’s more about the journey than wearing animal pelts and sharpening our teeth on rocks, for now.

Survival skills we study

  • Clothing, layers, boots and managing our micro environment
  • Putting together your own bug out bag
  • Shelter building and harbour areas
  • Patrolling and security
  • Making fires in cold wet conditions
  • Building various types of fires
  • Learn about different types of knifes and their usage
  • Foraging, catching and cooking food
  • Improvised first aid
  • Unarmed combat training

Keep up to date about any future courses or classes

I have been training at Viking KAPAP for over a year now, and I have found that I have come so far in that time. Having no previous martial arts experience, I was a bit worried in the beginning, but over a short time, my confidence grew through being a part of regular training. I was also able to talk to Brett when I felt like I was struggling and I was always encouraged and given advice. As a result of all the regular training, my strength, my stamina, my intelligence and awareness has risen loads. Training can be tough, but if you put in the effort, it's easy to see the value of the phrase "you get out of something what you put into it". I wish I had found the club much earlier on! It's a friendly and encouraging atmosphere and I have found that the individuals in the group share the same reason of attending.

Edged weapons awareness & disarming

Learn how to spot a potential concealed weapon (awareness). How to react/respond to a robbery and last resort attempt a disarm.

Firearms handling & disarming

At Viking KAPAP we insist that you learn basic firearms handling. Students will learn how to make a weapon safe, understand the mechanics of a pistol and the difference between different pistols and revolvers.

We train with VCRA compliant (blank firing pistols and BB pistols for realism) pistols. In class you will be taught Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). How to react in a robbery/hostage scenario, evaluate the situation and respond without risking injury to yourself and others.

Remember, their is no 100% guarantee a disarm will work. Is a calculated risk based on the situation and how it develops. Attempting to disarm someone is a last possible resort.

Street grappling

We teach practical easy to learn self defence drills on the ground. KAPAP system teaches Brazilian Jiu Jutsi (Machado school) as a self defence not a sport.
