IJJ is Viking Kapap’s new class for 11 – 15 year olds.
Now that Viking Kapap has it’s own venue, we are pleased to announce that we are able to offer sessions targeted and adapted to the younger audience.
IJJ is a new system that has been developed which is aimed specifically at young people and is completely adaptable to what young people may face in their day-to-day lives. The aim of IJJ is equip young people with the awareness of how to keep themselves safe in everyday life and also offer a positive team atmosphere to young people to feel a part of.
There are key principles that form the syllabus
- Awareness and prevention
Educating young people in how to avoid dangerous situations in the first place.
Increasing confidence to help young people become less identifiable as a target
Sticking to routines and training creates the warrior mindset of someone who is prepared to adapt to any given situation
Young people are in environments where there are a large number of situations to run into difficulties with their peers. Learning how to de-escalate situations is key in training before moving onto the physical side of defending themselves
Being fit and active is hugely important in young people’s lives as their bodies are changing. Learning what works for them in a challenging situation is important and then being able to rely on their fitness and bodies to push through a dangerous situation and escape
- Mental wellbeing
Training regularly promotes positive emotional and mental health. The instructor team comprises of people with experience of being a door supervisor of both experience in the field of mental and emotional health support
IJJ will cover a range of skills including:
- Ground work
- Wrestling and throws
- Muay Thai style boxing
- Weapon awareness
- Combat awareness
Please note this is not an exhaustive list…
IJJ is run by Viking Kapap but is separate to the adult classes. This means that they have their own syllabus, grading system and belt progression to the adults.
If a young person stays with us and progresses to the adult class, they will have the opportunity to have an update with instructors depending on their belt level before joining the class.
